What is a sleep bet?

Playing a friends only cash game:

One player placed a straddle. Another farther down the line wanted to place a "sleep" bet. I've never seen it in a casino cash game. What is it? Is it allowed in casinos or is it a local rule?

Hello Beverly,
We have actually never heard the term "sleep bet", but our guess is that the player just wants to make a bet out of turn. When you straddle you have option to raise, even if no one else has raised, when the action gets to you, and this is not the case when you act out of turn.
If a player would a place a sleep bet at a casino, it would probably be treated as a bet out of turn.
If anyone knows more about sleep bets, please let us know.
