Remember Winning

Yesterday one of my buddies, after going through a dry spell, finished up the week with a good sized win (at one of the larger limits he plays at). On the drive home while dicussing the days events, he made the comment how he had a few hands that he normally would have gotten involved with, but he wasn't going to today because he didn't want to give any of it back (it being a little of the 7 racks in front of him).

I replied something to the affect of, "that's how you need to play all the time." Success breeds success, at least in our cases. When I'm doing very well, I tend to play better and I have more perspective. I don't feel as though I need to battle over every pot that comes my way. Things are more clear and you realize that most of poker isn't playing well with your good cards, it is playing well with your marginal cards. Everyone can play AA pretty well, it is when you have marginal hand and have to either make a stand or muck it and save some money that defines your win rate. I suggest next time you play, try to remember how you played when on your best day and it will make many of your decisions clearer.
