WSOP Satellites Strategy Tip No. 1: Playing to Bubble
In a normal tournament, players have two different mindsets. Some are going for it all, with sole interest in winning the tournament. They would rather go broke trying to amass a chip stack than back into the money.
Other players have the exact opposite approach. They have an interest in cashing. They will happily pass up opportunities to build their stack if they can just quietly move up the ladder.
In a satellite, everyone who makes the money wins. There are X number of seats given out, and everyone who is left wins a seat (occasionally, if there is excess money, the "bubble" receives that money instead). What this means is that everyone should be playing to "cash." If you have a stack that would be above average at the final table, it's time to slow down and not take any unnecessary risks.
WSOP Satellites Strategy Tip No. 2: Give Yourself Chances
No matter how strong a player you are, you are subject to the whims of luck when you play any kind of poker tournament. This is particularly true in satellites when the blinds tend to rise faster than in traditional tournaments. You should try to make sure your bankroll allows you to play in two or three satellites to give yourself the best chance to win. If you can't afford three big satellites, consider super satellites or step satellites instead.
WSOP Satellites Strategy Tip No. 3: Don't' Be Intimidated
Remember everyone at the table has the same goal and the same concerns. Don't let anyone at the table convince you that they are going to outplay you. Play your best game, stay focused on your mission and let the chips fall where they may.
