Strange dealer mistake on the river

I was recently in a semi-final tournament for a cash prize. The dealer also plays. The dealer was still in the hand and on the river, she burned a card from the deck and exposed one of HER two cards as the river card.
Bets were made and she then stated that she had accidentally done this. The director was called over, several players stated they saw her do this, others stated they did not.
My comment was that by exposing her card, either accidentally or not, especially as dealer, she was out of the hand and her bets were forfeited to the pot.
The director ruled that since it was an accident, she could take back her card and deal the next card from the deck as the river and continue play.
What is your opinion? This was quite a large pot and her carelessness as dealer affected the outcome of other players chanced to continue on.
Please advise.
Thank you.

Answer:
Hello Donna,
This is one of the strangest questions we have ever gotten. How is it even possible to make such a mistake? And why didn't the players who claim they saw her turn over one of her own cards say anything right away, before the bets were made?
You're absolutely right in that her carelessness as dealer affected the outcome of the hand. However, if it's an honest mistake we think it's fair to let her stay in the hand. The fact that she showed one of her cards, and thus gave away lots of valuable information might be punishment enough.
On the other hand, as we mentioned above, it's seems almost impossible to make such a mistake, and if she did it purposely her hand should definitely be declared dead.
