Straight flush against straight flush
This is not actually a bad beat story but quite incredible anyway.

I play in a live cash game where the blinds are approx 1-2$(we play Norwegian currency)
There is a preflop bet of 4$ one man calls and I call.
Flop is: 8h 8c 10h
The other two guys check and I bet 13$.
One guy fold and the other guy calls.
Turn: 7h
We both check.
River: 5h
He bets 35$ and I re-raise 100$
He puts me all in with my remaining 180$
I call.
He says straight flush and slams his 4h6h in the table.
I shake my head, say me too and show my jh9h.
What are the odds of this happening?

Answer:
Hi,
thanks for your email. That's a quite remarkable hand Runar.
The odds of getting one straight flush in holdem after all five cards are out on the board is approximately 3590 to one. I can't even begin to imagine how slim the odds are of two players holding a straight flush, each using both their hole cards. One thing is for sure - I have never seen it happening during my 15 years of playing poker.

Clark Jensen
