Rules for Blind Structure in Tournaments?

Is there a set rule as to how the blinds increase in tournament style no limit texas holdem? In other words, if you start the game with $50/$100 chips as your blinds, when the blinds increase every 15 minutes, how do they increase from that point?

Top 3 Beginner Rooms

 

This is how we have been working our home game: (Is this correct)
$50/$100
$100/$200
$200/$400
$300/$600
$400/$800
$500/$1000
Etc.

Or are you supposed to double the small blind every 15 minutes, like this:
$50/$100
$100/$200
$200/$400
$400/$800
$800/$1600
$1600/$3200
$3200/$6400

Hello Debbie,

It's basically up to the tournament organizer to determine the blind structure - there is no rule you have to follow (not even for big tournaments like the WSOP or the WPT).

It's perfectly ok to use the structure you have been using in your home game. The most important thing is that the players are comfortable with the structure and finds the game enjoyable.
