When A Side Pot Is Created

Question/Comment: I have 2 questions about sides pots

1) when should we start to create sides pots ??? is it at the end of the bettin' round which means before goin' to the flop, the turn OR as soon as we have someone all-in ???

2) also a situation:

Player 1 goes all in with $50

Player 2 calls $50

Player 3 calls ($50) and raises $50

Player 4 folds

Now, Player 2 has to play

what should he call or reraise and why ? should he call 200$ or $100 or only $50

i've supposed , above, that the side pots are created at the end of the bettin' round let say the flop

with the same example...and if the side pots are created as soon as we have someone goin' all-in :

we would have this , i think :

Player 1 goes all in with $50

Player 2 calls $50

Player 3 calls ($50) and raises $50

at this step we will have 2 pots main pot : $150 & side pot of : $50

Player 4 folds

Now, Player 2 has to play

what should he call or reraise and why ? should he call 200$, $150, $100 or only $50

thank you for your time

Answer: Sidepots are created at the end of the betting round. So for example if you had someone go all-in preflop, the side pot would be created after everyone had a chance to play and before the flop cards were shown.

In the example you gave, the side pot shouldn't be created until Player 2 had a chance to play and all the other action/betting was settled. Player 2 has 3 options. He can just flat call the $100 (put another $50 in). He can fold or he can raise to $150 minimum (put another $100 in).

So this is how it should go if he just called:

Player 1 goes all in with $50

Player 2 calls $50

Player 3 calls $50 and raises $50 (the bet is now $100)

Player 4 folds

Now, Player 2 has to play and calls the $50 raise

Main Pot (that everyone can win): $150

Side Pot (only Player 3 or 2 can win): $100

* note that anymore betting on the flop, turn or river will go into the side pot. If Player 2 or 3 folds before showdown, the other guy gets the sidepot.

So this is how it should go if he raised:

Player 1 goes all in with $50

Player 2 calls $50

Player 3 calls $50 and raises $50 (the bet is now $100)

Player 4 folds

Now, Player 2 has to play and reraises to $150 total

Now, Player 3 has to play and calls the $150

Main Pot (that everyone can win): $150

Side Pot (only Player 3 or 2 can win): $200

* note that anymore betting on the flop, turn or river will go into the sidepot. If Player 2 or 3 folds before showdown, the other guy gets the sidepot.
