Turn Cards Face Up Before Showdown
my name is Henrik, and I have just started playing texas holdem, and have seen a lot of hours on the european open.I have therfor 2 question.
1: When you look at dome of the players on tv, sometimes the bet on the turn and the river, but sometimes they put their two cards face up after the flop.
Why don`t they just show their cards after the showdown every time?

If you make that side pot, what happens if player B win the hand and he has only contributed with money in the side pot?
I really hope that you understood what I was trying to say, and have some idè as to an answer.

Answer: The reason the players turn their cards face up before showdown is because one of them is all-in. Since there is no more betting, and tv ratings hinge on excitement, showing the cards in advance is done. Normally you just wait till showdown to reveal your hand but if you are all-in it is nice to just lay both hands face up on the table to see how things will turn out.
As for the second question, you are correct that player B can only win as much from player A has he personally has in front of him. For the next part of your question, yes if player B has a better hand than player A, player B gets to "double up" meaning he gets back from player A everything he wagered -- an example would be if I bet all my chips, $100 and you called and I won, I would get $200 total (assuming you had more chips than I).
Side pots would only be needed if there were other players in the hand too. A side pot is created if there is more betting that happens after a player goes all-in; that means that there have to be at least 3 players in the hand to make a side pot possible. In the event that the all-in player had the best hand, he doesn't win any of the side pot. Let me give a quick example: Blue bets. Yellow raises all-in. Red calls and Blue calls. Now on the next betting round Blue bets again and Red calls all-in.
There is a main pot with the first betting in it (all player's chips) and there is the side pot that just holds Blue and Red's money. If Yellow has the best hand, he only gets the main pot. To decide who wins the side pot you would evaluate Blue or Red's cards. On the other hand if Red or Blue have the best overall hand, they take the whole thing -- both main and side pots.
