Tournament buy-in definition
Question: I am a new player. Can you explain buy-in for a tournament with an example. What does $30 + 5 (etc) mean?

Answer: In the example you gave, $30 would go to the tournament itself to payout the winners. The + 5 means you'll pay an additional $5 and that goes to the tournament holder, the cardroom/casino. The total cost for you to pay is $35.
