Three of a Kind - Breaking Tie

Question: I was at a family reunion last weekend and was playing Texas Holdem with some of the guys and a hand was dealt where another player and myself both had three sevens. My second card which I was dealt was a king the other players second card was a jack. No other community card was higher than my king and I felt I WON the pot outright but some of the other players said that I had to split the pot because it was a tie, which I did. Who was right?

Answer: You are correct, you win. You hold the best five cards: three jacks with a king kicker (and another card).
