Talking While Hand In Play

Question:In a game of holdem, three 8's were on the board. Two guys were still in the hand. One of the guys bet big trying to bluff that he had the other 8.

The problem was, one of the players who folded let it be known that he already folded the other 8. The guy who made the big bluff didn't know that and lost big.

I don't know if it was accidental or not but what is the rule about this?

Thanks

Answer: The rule is that you are not supposed to talk about the hand while it is in play. If you are actually a person in the hand (in other words still with live cards) then you can chat all you like but people who have already folded aren't supposed to. I've never seen anyone get more then a warning for talking so I'm not sure what the outcome would be if someone lost because of it. If it was my game, before it started I would make sure all the players knew the rules and if they broke them then there would be some form of punishment -- whatever that may be is up to you. This is a follow up to my last question 8/10/04: Thank you for the answer but I'm afraid I didn't make myself clear.

The ruling I am concerned with is a person folding his cards letting some of the players active in the hand know what cards he had folded. I know you can never discuss the cards in your hand while playing but how about after you fold. Knowing what cards have been folded can effect the current hand. If you know your outs have been folded, you will fold yourself.

Answer 8/10/04: No you aren't allowed to discuss a hand while it is in play regardless of whether you have your cards or not. In other words you can't blurt out, "all the person needs is an Ace to win!" Usually the dealer just warns the person that they aren't allowed to talk about the hand until it is over. I've never seen a situation where someone tried to dispute a hand on the grounds that another player gave information that was used to win so I'm not sure how it would be dealt with. My gut says they wouldn't give the money back, instead just give the person a big warning.
