Suggested Bankroll

Question: Thanks for all of the great info and site. had a real quick question. i know i have seen this before but i can't seem to find it. I have been playing at the $1/2 level since Jan and have learned a ton. I have experienced the bad and good runs. I have figured out how to adjust my playing styles accordingly and have been building a bankroll. I would like to make the jump to the $3/6 level soon so i can start to see a decent profit for my efforts. I play this in the B&M when I get a chance on vac so I know what it is like. what size bankroll would you suggest that would be sufficient for the long run. I don't want to make the jump too soon hit that bad run and drain my roll. I think I have read before that it should be something like 200X the big bet. thanks for the help and maintenance of this site.

Answer: That's an excellent question. I think that to move to a $3/6, $1200 would be fine. I would say that even $1000 would be fine. With that said though, I remember back in the days losing three racks at 3/6 in a session so maybe you would want to stick to the 200x. If it is a kill game then you'll want even more money then that.

The key idea with the bankroll is that you want to remain in the game regardless of how you are doing. That means if you have a number of losing sessions you'll still have the money to be able to wait it out to win the money back at that same level. That's why I mentioned in one of the articles on here about how I'm not a big fan of taking a shot at a bigger game until your bankroll can afford it.

The worst is when you try a bigger game, lose and then have to make it up at the lower limit again. So take your time and you'll end up moving the stakes ladder faster anyway.
