Question: In my group of friends we've had some heated arguements about seeing folded hands about 6 people say you can and the other say you can't, so can you or cant you??

Answer: Yes and no. Here are a few points:

* It is usually bad poker etiquette to ask to see someone's hand who lost and mucked. It is legal though.

* You can ask to see a person's hand who called and lost, but not a person who folded. There is a difference between being involved in a showdown by betting or calling and just folding. If the person folds you can't ask to see their hand for any reason. If they lose the showdown you can. You need to announce it before the hand is over though (so they don't muck). You can see, "dealer I would like to see all hands."

* If the cards hit the muck pile, most casinos have a rule that they can't be taken out for any reason. This includes both mucking your hand and them unintentionally being mucked (like if the dealer grabs them because you don't have a chip on them). Once they go into the muck/discard pile, even if you can prove that those were your two cards, the hand is dead. This is where the rule "protect your hand at all times" comes in.
