Rock Vs Weak Tight

Question: Yo,

I was just reading over the Basic Texas Holdem Strategy article, and I can't seem to figure out what the difference between a Weak-Tight player and a Rock is. They look pretty similar. Thanks!

Answer: They are similar in a lot of ways but what sets them apart is that the Rock is much more conservative but isn't afraid to bet their hands and the weak tight player isn't aggressive enough. Rocks usually wait all day for AA and then are happy to bet or call it down. A weak tight player won't be quite as tight as the rock but will be less aggressive.

Weak tight players usually don't adjust their style based on how everyone else is playing. For example, a weak tight player might get reraised preflop by a loose aggressive player when they hold AK and then fold on the flop when they miss. Weak tights fold hands that aren't premium even though they are most likely good; an example of this would be middle pair or second pair against a maniac.

It is hard to put moves on Rocks postflop because they usually get married to their big cards and will call down just so they can flip them over and complain. On the other hand you can put moves on a weak tight player because you know if they don't have much they will fold since they don't take into account what you may be holding.
