Revealing Hand Follow Up
Question: I have a follow up question with respect to revealing your hand before showdown. I have heard many conflicting comments regarding this. I have heard that you can only do it when it is down to one on one when you are last to act, therefore if someone were to go all in and you had yet to act, you could reveal your hand and try and gauge their reaction. I have also heard that you can't. I read in Doyle Brunson's "Wisdom from a Poker Champion", that he often would reveal his hand in similar circumstances for that very purpose when it was one on one.
It would seem that even if your opponent was last to act, the only person you can hurt would be yourself. If you have them beat, they will fold. If they have you beat, they can bet at you without fear.
I suppose my question, is there an actual rule or is it a matter of table etiquette? Thanks...

Answer: It just depends where you play. Cardrooms can have different rules, so can tournaments compared to cardrooms. I would suggest not employing that trick unless you are content with folding if someone calls a floorman. I wouldn't be surprised if rules differed in Doyle's days too. Showing your hand out of turn is against the rules regardless of where you play (even if you are going to muck it). If you are playing in a home game, make up whatever rules you want. If you are going to play in a tournament, just ask for a copy of the rules and look them over before you start.
