Answer: Most poker players who keep records track the hours they play and their wins and losses. That way they can calculate their hourly rate. I'm not a huge believer in hourly rates since games differ so much. I've kept a number of records over the years. I'm not so interested in hours played and wins or losses as much as I am interested in keeping track of my good and bad plays.

It's hard to keep track of every hand you've played in a day but if you play online, try it sometime. I was surprised to see the results. You may also just want to keep a poker journal of how the day went. For example, you could give a few stats like the date, hours played and win or loss amount. Then include a little summary about the days events.

I like to usually do an analysis of why I lost. Was it something I did? Was I just unlucky that day? Was I on tilt and getting stubborn? Another trick you can do if you are playing at a regular casino is to track how many mistakes you have made. You could put a chip on the side of your stack for each error, or change a coin from one pocket to the other. I consider mistakes those situations where I know I'm probably doing something wrong but for some reason I still do it.

So if you want to track some stuff I would create a text file or a spread sheet and then write the date, hours played, win/loss, and then as many notes as you can about the day. The notes will really help out.
