Ploys to get free cards...

Question: do you have any good way or good ideas when your in early position heads up or against two opponents to say check or how you hit the table indicating you have a pretty strong hand which in turn makes them check behind you so then you can see one or maybe even two free cards. when in the hand you dont really have much but you want to see the cards but if they bet big your gonna have to fold?

Answer: Some people will deliberately pause before they say, "ok check" so that you think they were going to bet but decided not to. That's kind of a shady poker tactic and it won't work on people who know what they are doing. Also it will most likely work against you since they will be able to use it as a tell communicating to them that you have a weak hand.

It isn't easy to get free cards when you are in early position against good players and that is one of the main reasons you want to player strong hands in the front and more hands in the back. Position really matters.

My advice for getting some free cards is to possibly check raise a few times instead of betting outright. That has the affect of making people check more hands in the back but it can also work against you since you may be also giving free cards if they check behind you.
