Not Raising Because of Rake

Question: I was in a no limit game online. I am heads up and by the river, there is an A high straight on the table. There aren't three card to a flush, so the nuts are on the table. My opponent checks. I go all in. He calls and we split the pot. He sends me a message asking why I did that telling me it just increases the rake so the casino ends up making more and we make less from the pot. The reason I did it was just in case my opponent didn't realize that it was a split pot since it was a low limit game. What would you do and is it true that the casino gets a larger rake?

Answer: I always reraise with the nuts -- regardless of the rake. Most of the time the rake cap has already been met and if it hasn't oh well. It's only a few bucks max if you are playing larger limits. That's nothing in relation to the size of the pot. Many times I've assumed that my opponent has the same hand as I had only to find out I lost a couple bets because I didn't raise.
