Getting no good hands all night (cold cards)

Question: Hi. Tonight i played a game where I just didnt get any good cards at all....NONE. What would you suggest doing if this happened? Would trying to bluff everything help? Would preflop raising help? What would a good strategy be in this situation?

Answer: Unfortunately this happens a lot in texas holdem... There isn't much you can do about it. If you are in a game where a bluff or two will work then go ahead and give it a try. I probably wouldn't try that in a limit game but in no limit I would. When you do decide to push a hand (bluff), then make sure you play it how you would if you really did have a good hand -- by raising a good amount preflop and betting it on the flop and after. Don't half ass it and raise preflop and then bet the flop and check it down. If you are going to bluff, fire both barrels and buy the pot. This can backfire though and put you in an even worse mood so be prepared for that as well.

I'm not sure where you are playing but if you have the option to switch tables, you may want to do that. You don't have a mathematical chance of getting better cards at one table versus another but its nice to have a change (which can be a psychological boost). Another reason to switch tables is that if you haven't been in a hand for an hour and finally raise, chances are you won't get any action. It's hard to combat that -- everyone assumes you are only playing Aces.
