Missed Burn Card

Question: So the other night me and the guys were playing a tournement of nl texas hold em. There were several tables and at the final table this event happened. Preflop me and another player got all in. It was just me and him in the hand. We lay the cards down, I have Ace King suited he has Ace Duece suited. Flop comes he catches his deuce no help to me. Turn comes a king but the dealer then relizes after he has laid the king down that he did not burn a card before this. What should happen? Should the king remain or should it be the burnt or misdeal? What would happen professionally if this were to happen in a casino? Thank you for reading this.

Answer: First of all, there are no misdeals after there is action (betting). How this would be handled is to take the King card that was the turn card, put it back in the deck, reshuffle and deal the burn card and then the turn card again. The reason it is done this way is because the outcome doesn't favor either you or the other player. If the burn card was kept, obviously it would help you -- the error would be unfair to your opponent. If the burn card was used as the turn card, and a new turn card was dealt out, it would favor your opponent since one king was now out of the deck.

By shuffling it up and redealing, the exact same odds of you catching the King and his hand holding up are in tact, while still getting the burn card how it should be.
