Mike Caro's Book Of Tells
Question 2: I've memorized Caro's Book of Poker Tells, and I know that you aren't affiliated with it. How reliable is that thing?
Thank you,

As for Mike Caro's book of tells, I've got mixed feelings. I think it is worth reading but I wouldn't base my decision making solely on it -- I'm sure he would say the samething though so it isn't taking anything away from his book. I've never been a big believer in the typical definition of a "tell"-- some overt behavior that speaks if a person is weak or strong.
I try instead to look at how they bet in different situations and then piece the hand back together with that information. I do have to say though that some people have tells. There is one guy at a cardroom I play at now and then that tries to stare you down and holds his chips up in his hand; kind of telling you that if you bet he is for sure going to call. That was always a sign of weakness for him so even bottom pair was good.
Most people aren't that blatant and every now and then you'll have someone intentionally throwing out mixed signals to mess you up. I know I do that. I'm very aware of the way I bet and I will adjust that in different hands just to throw people off. So like everything, moderation is the key. I think reading the book is good but just like any other book, take it with a grain of salt.
