Limit Holdem, How Many Times Can You Raise

Question: I have a question about how many times you can raise in limit hold em. Let say it's a $4/$8 game and after the turn I bet $8 and the next guy raises and everyone else folds, can I re-raise? and if so how many times? I guess a second part to that question is can everyone raise so I raise $8 the next guy raises $8 then the next guy raises $8 etc... or is there a limit?

Answer: In most cardrooms one bet and three raises are allowed in limit holdem; two exceptions are Vegas, which allows one bet and four raises, and Indian Casinos where sometimes if you are heads up you can indefinitely reraise one another.

For the second question, the amount a person can raise in limit holdem depends on what betting round the action takes place. For example, if the game is a $4/8 the amount a person can raise preflop and on the flop is $4. If the betting round is the turn card or the river card then the increment of a bet or raise is $8.

Lastly, the limit for how many raises are allowed is the same for all betting rounds. So if there is one bet and three raises allowed preflop, the same amount of bets and raises is allowed on the turn, river, etc.
