Question: Why is the last card called "the river"?

Answer: That's a good question. I have no idea really. Just like I'm not sure why fourth street is called "the turn card". I've also read people refer to the flop as "the turn". I'm sure there is some reason for it but I have never heard. If you find you, let us know.
Update May 23rd - It turns out the reason the river card is called that is because of holdem originating on river boats. That's the best I could find out.
