How Are Cards Revealed?
Top 3 Beginner Rooms
Player 2 rants that once player 1 revealed that he only had 1 pair of Q's that was his hand. Player 2 stated that Player 1 cannot use the second card to complete his full house.
Does it matter how the cards are revealed?
Can one card be revealed as discussed above and then a second later or must both cards be revealed at the same time?
Answer:
The problem with this scenario is that the rules weren't initially followed. During a showdown in Texas holdem, both cards must be revealed. You can't expose only one card, even if it is the winner. Both cards must be shown to accept the pot. It really isn't even the other player's turn until the first player shows both cards. Note that this is only during showdowns -- where hands are evaluated amongst one another. If you bet and an opponent folds, then you don't have to show your opponent anything. Likewise, if your opponent mucks his hand (for any reason), you don't have to reveal your hand to accept the pot. Next, let's say for some reason the first player didn't even know that he didn't have a full house and the other guy thought his straight was the winner; it still wouldn't matter. In holdem the dealer evaluates the hands and awards a pot; players don't have to recognize what they have even.
Lastly, you always want to make sure during showdowns that you act in turn and also protect your hand until you get the pot. Dealers aren't perfect and mistakes can happen -- like your hand getting mucked by accident or the pot being pushed to someone else even though you have the winning hand. Keep your cards in front of you with a finger on them until the pot is pushed your way or it is time to muck your hand.
