Answer1: No, the best hand wins regardless of whether or not someone misreads their hand. The reason is that to win the pot, if not everyone has folded, you have to show the winning hand. It is at that point the dealer evaluates the strength of the hands and awards the pot.

Question2: I was playing in a small Texas Hold-Em tourney. There was 1 rule. Call your own hand. This was the first time the host had ever had a tourney. I went all in and after the river we both showed cards and I said "2 pair...7's and 8's" The other person said "2 pair...8's and 4's" He thought he won because I said my 7's before my 8's. I took the pot but it made the rest of the night not much fun because of the argument that resulted.

Who wins that hand? Does it matter in which way you state your 2 pair.

Thanks,

Sean

Answer2: There is a difference between home games and casino games. At the home game, the person who runs the game is the rule maker. Normally you don't have to call out your hand in holdem for it to win but if those are the rules at his house then you have to abide by them. I wouldn't accept it though unless they specifically said that was the rule before we started the hand. They can't switch the rules back and forth along the way, or create rules, to get an advantage.
