Going All-In In No Limit Holdem
I was dealt Q, 2 -both hearts.
Flop came 3,4 hearts, 5. I thought well if an Ace comes out i've hit the striaght but yet someone else may still tag along betting on the Ace.

so i bet, one player called.
Turn card, Ace hearts, so now i'd hit my straight and also had a flush draw. I bet and the other player called.
River card was 5 hearts, so now i'd hit the flush but also realised that a boat was out but really didnt think he had it, so i went all in, he called and showed King 7 hearts, higher flush won the hand.
Not really a bad beat as such but still a hand where i thought i had won but still managed to get chinned!!
Answer: Going all-in or making large bets on the river in no limit holdem... This is going to be a short but important tip. Whenever you go all-in or bet a lot, you have to ask what you are trying to accomplish. Often times, like in the hand above, what you were trying to accomplish wasn't suited by the play. One problem with the hand above is that by betting so much, are you going to get someone with a worse hand to call? Or will you only get called by something that could beat you?
Let me word that differently so it resonates. What do you gain from betting so much that the only hand that can call you is a stronger than your own? The two outcomes then are; one, a person with a smaller flush folds (or a straight, two pair, etc); two, you go bust because a better hand calls (like the person did above). Don't bet more than is needed to accomplish your goal. In most situations like this, you aren't going to be able to muscle someone off their hand; instead, you'll just get called by the winner. What should have happened here is to make a decent sized bet, but not all your money.
What this accomplishes is two fold. Firstly, since the board is so coordinated, it serves as kind of a defensive bet. The opponent will have to really have a strong hand to raise your bet (remember in no limit holdem you would have to double the bet). So if you are beat, you get off cheaply and don't get bust. If he does raise, you most likely have a clear option -- to fold. Secondly, you give the opportunity to get called by weaker hands. Instead of chasing the weaker hands all off, you price them in and get paid off.
