Full House Definition

Question:Hi. I have a question concerning the "full house" hand. I play poker with my friends sometimes and they say you can have a full house when you have a three of a kind and there is a pair on the board. Is this a full house? I need clarification.

Hers an example:

the five cards: A A K 9 2

I have: 6 10

opponent has: K K

Does the opponent have a full house because of the aces?

Thank you and I hope you can answer my question. Josiah

Answer: That is one way you can have a fullhouse... A fullhouse is when you have three of one kind with a pair. How you make up those two elements can be a number of ways since in holdem you can use your two personal cards with the five community cards. Here are some examples of fullhouse hands:

Example 1: AK - Flop: A A K 2 3

Example 2: AA - Flop: A 3 3 4 5

Example 3: J5 - Flop: J 5 4 3 5

Example 4: AK - Flop: 3 3 3 4 4

When comparing two fullhouses to see who has the better hand, you look first at the 3 of the kind, then at the pair:

Player A: AK

Player B: AQ

Flop/Turn/River: A A 5 5 Q

Player B wins with AAAQQ versus the other guy's AAA55
