Forced To Fold By Raise

Question: In a no limit, anti game

player 1 - has $10.00 bets $5.00

player 2- sees the $5.00

player 3- sees the $5.00 and raises $30.00.

does this force player -1 to fold? or does he go all in with the $5.00 remaining and a side pot created?

Answer: Thanks for the question Dan. You are never forced to fold in holdem because you don't have enough money. This is what the all-in and side pots are for. In the example you gave, the options player 1 has are to either call all-in with $10, or to fold and lose his $5. If he does call all-in then player 2 would have to call, raise or also go all-in.

A side pot will be created for any money over $30. We get $30 because player 1 had $10 total and there are three players calling that amount or more. Remember for side pots, a player can just win as much from each other player as he himself wagered. It wouldn't be fair for me to only have $10 and you have $100 and I win all your money with just my ten. Instead I can just win $10 from you in that hand.
