Eligible For Main Pot

Question: This is a great site. Thanks! Here is my question, I went all in in tournament style play. There were two players with me and all matched. Next round a player bet to get a side pot. Player number 3 didn't necessarily want to go in but was interested in staying in for my "all in". My question is if player #3 went out was he still eligible for the main pot?

Thanks

Answer: Nope, if he folds he has no chance of winning either the main pot or side pot. That is an important lesson to learn. Often times a player will go all-in and you'll be left with only one opponent who will just try to check it down to you. There is no reason to be nice to them, use this informaton against them and at least win the side pot (if there is one). If you bet that third player out you'll also have a much better shot at beating the all-in player. It won't cost you anymore money either if the one opponent folds.
