Don't Create Unnecessary Side Pots
Hi, and thank you for a very great site. i have a question that i couldnt find in your site though. it's about all-in.
ex. 100-100 blinds player 1 - (bigblind) 200 player 2 - goes all in for 150 player 3 - raise to 400 player 1, big blind folds
player 3 would then match player 2's 150 right?if player 2 wins, will he get all the pot including big blind's 200? or just 150? will the remaining 50 goes to player 3?
thanks very much! JoyceTop 3 Beginner Rooms
Hi Joyce
There is a small blind in this hand, if I understand you correctly, and none of player 2 or 3 has posted anything before the cards are dealt, so SB must have folded pre flop. Before the hand starts we have got $200 in the pot (small and big blind).
Then player 2 raises all-in with his last $150, and player 3 moves all in for $400. Small and big blind then decide to fold and BB has $100 left (he just posted BB). You write that BB folds first, but he is supposed to be last to act. Maybe he mucked his hand out of turn, but that doesn't change anything in this example. However, no player can mach player 3's 400 and he will get $250 back to avoid creating unnecessary side pots.
The pot is now: $150 (player 2) + $150 (player 3) + $100 (SB) + $100 (BB) = $500
If player 2 wins the pot he can only get max $150 from each player. Hi will get $150 from player 3, plus the blinds, and of course the money he put in, altogether $500.
If player 3 has the best hand when all community cards are on the table, he will take down the pot and player 2 is eliminated
