Dealer Exposes River Card

Question/Comment: Here's a rules question for you. We were playing texas hold'em at a house game and were player with a permanant dealer. There was a hand that was down to 2 players (player A who was 1st after the button and player B who then followed player A). Both players are in before the flop. The flop....player A checks, player B bets, player A calls. The Turn...player A checks....the dealer accidentally flips over the river card.....then player B bets, and player A calls. We were wondering what we were actually supposed to do with that river card? Do we continue to use the original river or do we use that one as a burn card and go on to the next one. The thing is, the original river actually helped one of the players.

Answer: There are two options:

1. You can use the exposed card as a burn card and then deal another river. This isn't fair to the person who was helped by the miss-dealt card though.

2. You can have the dealer put the exposed card back in the remaining deck and reshuffle it. Then another river card can be dealt.

Of the two options, I think the second option is better and fair to everyone. The person with the draw has the exact same odds of hitting their card again as they did before and the other player won't get a decision made against him that helped the first player.
