Dealer Button Position Heads Up
Question: I just have a follow up to the question about dealer button during heads up.
Last night I was watching the Superstars of poker re-run, and was noticing where the button was and who acted first.
What I noticed is that the person with the button, did not get the first card as you stated on 7/7/05. Do they use a different set of texas hold em rules? They did however 'act' first as they were in the small blind.
Thanks

Answer: The correct way for heads up play in holdem is to have the dealer button with the small blind and the big blind the other player. The dealer never gets dealt first. The big blind gets the first card, then the dealer (small blind). Preflop the dealer has to act first since he is the small blind. Post flop the other player, non-dealer button player, acts first.
