(may hand: A 10 position: under the gun), flop: 10 10 4
make small bet (.02)
everyone calls, then on the turn check (so that people think you were trying to take it with a tiny bet and then check-raise)...
here is what i did
made the two cent bet on the flop, and then on the turn (8) i bet .10 ... everyone folded and i kicked myself for winning 20 cents when i probably could have gotten more ...
what do you think?
Answer: That's a problem you'll always be faced when playing no limit holdem. You want to make as much money on a good hand as you can but you don't want to bet everyone out or bet too little that your hand can be run down. In no limit many answers to strategy questions come down to the other person(s) in the hand with you. How do they play? What can you do to make them play the worst?
Sometimes playing a hand straight forwarded is the most confusing thing to a good player. Other times you may want to let people catch up and then put in a big bet. And on rare occasions you'll have a player that won't fold for any reason in which case making larger then normal bets is best. With a flop like T - T - 4, you probably aren't going to get much action.
I would suggest doing what you did and betting a normal amount on the flop but then not checking the turn. I would bet the turn again and the best you can hope for is someone will give you action with a slightly worse hand. The worst thing that would happen is that you give someone a flush draw on the turn and then they catch it and you lose.
That's why I'm not a big fan of slow playing hands in no limit unless they are close to the nuts. Just realize that most hands aren't going to be contested -- that's how no limit is. You'll have a lot of small pots and then bam, someone will lose their stack.
