Check Raise And 3 Bet Definitions
Thanks again for all your insight an knowledge.
The following is straight from one of your articles (Texas Hold'em Raising
- Information/Slow Someone Down).
"Or you may want to check raise them and see if they three bet you."
Can you please give me an example of this. Have only been playing for 2 months. Still have a mental block on what exactly a "check raise" is and what are the 3 bets.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Charles

Check Raise - if you are in position earlier then another player and you check and then they bet you have the options to fold, call or raise. If you raise when first checking to someone then this is called a "check raise." Normally a check raise is a stronger move then just a raise or betting. You can use check raises to limit the field if you are in early position or you can use them to milk more money on your good hands.
Three Bet - this term is only applicable to limit holdem games. Three betting means that if I bet and you raise, then I reraise that is a "3 bet" -- it's the third raise.
What I was talking about in that article, I think, was basically testing the waters for your hands. Most likely I was referring to times when you have top pair and aren't sure whether or not the preflop raiser has you beat with an over pair. Sometimes a check raise gives you more information then just a bet does.
