Burn Card After Every Betting Round?

Question: Hi, thanks so much for your website!

I just have one question...

I noticed that you mention that there is a burn card after before the flop but the person that submitted their hourse tourney rules mentions that there is a burn card after every bettnig round. Which is standard? And what's the purpose of a burn card?

thanks much

Answer: There are two questions here. The first question is, is it ever better to be in early position instead of late position? That answer is no. Having position on someone is always advantageous and you give up some of your power when you have to act first. The second question is whether or not betting when you are in early position can be advantageous and the answer to that is definitely yes.

This is called having the initiative. When you take charge and bet you force your opponent's moves to ones that are more difficult (assuming you both don't have much): showing a real hand and winning, raising to bluff, calling with little or nothing. A bet can win in two ways; first, it can win by making the other person fold; second, it can win with the best hand. You want to be a bettor and not a caller because the caller can only win by showing the best hand.

That's not to say that the call doesn't have its place because it certainly does but if your goal is to take the pot from someone else, then betting is the best way.
