Breaking Ties For Flushes...
Question: thanks for a great web site. here is my question. last night we were playing texas holdem and the five cards that were turned wereall hearts for a flush on the board. the first player had a queen of hearts and a 2 of diamonds. the top two cards in the flush that was on the board were a ace and king. the second player had no hearts in his hold cards. who wins the hand

Answer: That's a common question. The answer is that the person with the best five cards win. So if the first player had a Q of hearts the he would have to win in that hand.
Here is another example:
You have: AK spades
He has: 3d3h
The flop/turn/river:
2h - 4h - Ah - 9h - Kh
He would win the hand.
His best five cards are: 3h - 4h - Ah - 9h - Kh
Your best five cards are: 2h - 4h - Ah - 9h - Kh
* Notice how his 3 of hearts beat the 2 of hearts on the board. Now if the 2h was instead a 5h, you would split the pot. Then you would both have the same hand.
