Blinds When Someone Busts Out
How do we assign the small/big blinds when the person(s) scheduled to be the next blinds busts on the prior hand?
Ex. In the current hand, the small blind busts and is out of the game. The deal goes to the person who paid the big blind, who no longer sits in a "small blind" position. Who puts up the small/big blinds?
This issue gets more complex with less people left at the table. In a recent game with 4 people left, the big blind busted putting me in the small blind position for the next hand (the big blind position skipped me). My fellow players concluded that I should put up both blinds, in addition to the current big blind position ( 2 big and 1 small blind in the pot). Is this the correct way to handle this?
Thanks Steve

Answer: To be honest I don't know what the official rule is on this since I've seen it done a couple different ways. At regular ring play in casinos if someone leaves or gets busted out, they have two big blinds and one small blind. Then the next hand they have two small blinds and one big blind. Then the third hand everything is back to normal.
On the other hand I have seen other places just have people entirely skip their big blind so the following hand is back to normal (one big blind and one small blind). If this is a home game, I would suggest laying out the rules in advance and just having everyone agree to them. I think that is the common solution to everything -- the house rules are law (like it or not).
In the example you gave above, there is another option and that is called a "dead button". So the dealer button would be moved to the seat of the person who just got busted out and then the next hand everything is back to normal. This is probably the best method even though the person who was last to act on the previous hand, is last to act again. Whatever you choose someone will get screwed a little.
