Answer: There are a lot of terms in the game so let me know if I missed anything you wanted to know. I'll list the basic ones here:

* Bet - this is a wager. How much the wager is depends on the structure of the game (no limit or limit) and then at what point in the hand it is.

* Raise - this is an increase in the wager. If someone else bets first then you have the option to raise the bet. How much you can raise depends the structure of the game and at what point it is in the hand. For example, in limit texas holdem you can only raise a set amount and there can be only 4 or 5 raises total (four for California and five for Vegas). In no limit holdem there is no limit on how much you can raise. You can put all your chips in at any point.

* Check - checking is basically like passing. The turn to move goes to the next player. If everyone in the hand checks, then the next stage in the hand happens.

* Check Raise - a check raise is when a person checks to another player who bets. At this point the first player raises the other players bet.

* Call - a call is to match the persons wager. If we were playing and I bet $5 and you put $5 in after me, you just "called" my bet.

* Fold - folding is to muck your hand. It means you discard it. When you fold you are removed from any chance of winning the pot. You are out of this hand completely.

* Blinds - blinds are forced bets placed before the start of each hand to stimulate play. After each hand, the blinds rotate so that everyone has their turn. Without forced betting before people see their cards, the game wouldn't be as fun since everyone would just wait for AA all day.

* Ante - an ante is like a "blind" except that an ante is usually much smaller then a blind and also everyone at the table has to ante while with blinds there usually just two.

* Dealer Button - the dealer button is an actual button on the table representing the dealer. Since in casinos people don't actually deal the cards, the dealer does, this represents where they would be. This also rotates after each hand. This is the best position to be in because you can see what everyone elses moves are before you act.

* Flop - the flop is the three community cards placed on the table. It is the second stage or betting round in holdem. The first stage is dealing, followed by the flop, followed by the turn, followed by the river.

* Turn - the turn card, or fourth street, is the name for the fourth community card placed on the table from which all players can use to make their best five card hand.

* River - the river card, or fifth street, is the name for the fifth and final community card placed on the table from which all players can use to make their best five card hand. Note that with the five community cards and the two personal cards, there are a total of seven cards that each player can make their hand from. After the river card the last betting round happens and people show their cards.

* All-in - going all-in is the act of putting all of your chips into the pot.

* Side Pot - a side pot happens when a player goes all-in and other players still have chips. It is only fair that a player can win as much from the other players as he himself wagered so more then one pot is created. This is tricky so don't worry about it now.

* Limit - limit holdem is where the amount a player can bet at any point has a limit. For example, a $15/30 game means that the first two betting rounds are in increments of $15 and the second two betting rounds are in increments of $30. That means if I raise preflop, or before the flop, then I would raise from $15 to $30. If you reraised then you would raise from $30 to $45.

* No Limit - no limit is type of betting structure for texas holdem. Instead of their being a limit on how much you can bet, there is none. That means if you have $1000 in front of you, at any point in the game, when it is your turn, you can bet or raise that much. No limit is what you'll see on TV.

* Pot Limit - pot limit is another betting structure type for holdem. The basic idea is that you can bet/raise as much as is in the pot. As the hand progresses and the pot gets larger, the max you can bet also goes up.
