Betting Round Questions

Question: The only thing left now is the options each player has during the betting rounds.

If everyone 'calls' the flop happens and the betting starts again. Do the bets start from the previous round's level? IS this tru for all betting rounds?

Answer: This depends on if you are playing limit or no limit holdem. If you are playing no limit holdem, the betting increment resets. The minimum is the blind size. So in a $5/10 no limit game, the minimum you can ever bet is $10. In no limit each betting round resets and the first bet is now the minimum increment for raising.

So let's say that we all called preflop and the flop was shown. In a $5/10 if you want to bet you could bet a minimum of $10 or as much as you chips. If you bet $20 and I wanted to raise then I would have to raise to $40 since you changed the increment to $20. In limit holdem it is different. In our $5/10 limit game, the first two betting rounds are in increments of $5 and the last two betting rounds are $10. So when you see your cards it is in $5. On the flop it is $5. On the turn card it is $10 and on the river card it is $10. Just remember that the increment in limit is fixed and in no limit it changes.

If I raise and am reraised, to 'call' do I just make up the difference between the last bet and my last bet or do I have to match the reraised bet?

Answer: To call someone elses bet you have to match it. So if I bet $100 into you and you raised to $500, I would have to put another $400 out or as much of it as I had. The options are either we both have the same amount of money wagered, one of us has folded, or one of us is all-in.

I am just trying to get to grips with how this all works, it seems quite complicated!

Answer: It can be confusing, especially if you are just reading about it. If you see an actual game played, you'll pick up on it really quickly. The basics are just that in limit holdem the amount you can bet each time is fixed and in no limit it has no maximum.
