Average Winning Hand
In a ten player holdem game, what is the average winning hand strength?
For example, if you played 10,000 hands and all ten people stayed in each hand, would the average winning hand be two pair? three of a kind?
What would the average winning hand be for a game where 5 players played all the way thru?
Please respond to my email if you can...
Thank you,
Rob

Answer: I'm not sure what the average hand strength would be if all 10 players called and went to the river. I don't think finding out would be useful either, since it wouldn't be applicable to real games. In real games, most people have some sort of starting hand preference -- same with post flop. For real games, where all players don't call till the river, the hand that wins the most is one pair. Then second is two pair, then trips, a straight, flush, etc.
The reason is simply that the a pair is easier to get than two pair, which is why it is ranked on the bottom of the list. It will be this way all the way down to probably heads up play. In heads up play, a good portion of the hands no one has anything.
* and when I say a pair, I mean a pair out of the 7 cards, not a pocket pair
