Antes In Tournaments

Question: I have been searching for this answer for a while. What percentage of tournaments play with an ante? I know the WPT uses ante's, does the WSOP use them? I'm not referring to the big/small blinds as ante's, I'm referring to an amount that everyone puts in the pot in addition to the blinds. Is this a rare thing or is this pretty standard among top tournaments? Are ante's used only in tournaments? Will I find them at a regular table? Thanks for your help, love your site.

Answer: Using antes in no limit tournaments is standard for all the larger ones. Sometimes they will only have an ante for later rounds in the tournament, sometimes the whole time. It just depends on the tournament director. You won't find ante games for limit holdem -- at least no where that I have seen. As for finding antes in cash games instead of tournaments, I've never played in those types of games unless they are home ones. Antes can be fun though since it gets more money in the pot. It definitely promotes action. The larger the ante, the looser the play will be.
