Annoucing Your Hand At Showdown
In the movie Mavrick, in the big game at the end, James Coburn says something to the effect of "I only have two pair, Aces and Aces". Sooner or later you're gong to get 4-of-a-kind, I can't wait to use the joke (I like the shock factor). Can this have any negative effects such as a ruling that you only have 2 pair since you called it as that?
Thanks again for the site and goodluck in your games (I mean skill),

In holdem, you don't have to announce your hand at showdown. The dealer awards the pot to the player of the winning hand so I don't think this would be problem. I hear people say things similar to that all the time. Another example is to say, "I have a pair" when actually you have a set -- you have a pair in your hand, but the board has one of your cards as well. You can lie as much as you like in poker, and it is encouraged. No one will mind if you tell an untruth about your hand before showdown.
The only time I would probably recommend not doing this is in tournaments, since people take a single pot more seriously. I don't think there are any tourneys where they would award the pot to a losing hand because one player lied at showdown, but you never know. And if you did do this, just make sure you keep your hand on your cards.
One thing that happens relatively often is that someone doesn't see they have a one card straight or flush and then their hand gets mucked, only for someone else to point out the mistake, but it is too late and the hand is dead since it touched the muck pile. So lie liberally and have fun, but keep your hand on your cards until you have the pot. Also, don't say "raise" or "call" because word is bond on those.
