All-Ins And Side Pots...

Question:I have a somewhat important question,"to me"that i know you can anwser.comparing main pots and side pots in "all ins".ok lets say player 1 goes all in with $50, player 2 matches the all in , player 3 maches the all in, player 4 folds so player 3 wants to raise a side pot with player 2, does player 2 have to match the side pot or fold.

Answer:Yes you are correct. Just the order may be slightly off.

Here is how it would happen:

Player 1 - $50 All-In

Player 2 - Calls $50

Player 3 - Raises $50 making it $100

Player 4 - folds

Notice that player 3 had to make his move in turn. He wasn't able to let player 4 fold THEN decide to raise.

So now what would happen is Player 2 would have the option to just call, reraise or fold.

If he folds, there is just one pot and it is $150 (50 from each player) and any one of them can win the entire thing.

If he calls, there will be two pots: main pot ($150, 50 from each player) and side pot (100 $50 from only player 2 and player 3). Note that anyone again can win the main pot but only player 2 and player 3 can win their side pot. Any additional betting also goes to this side pot.

The main rule that governs all this is that a player can only win as much from the other players as he has himself. See it wouldn't be fair if I only had a buck and you had 100 and I could win all of your money without having to match it. So if I only had a buck left, the best I could hope for is to go all-in and have everyone call and then win a buck each from them.
