All-In Preflop With AA

Question: I was recently playing in a home game with some new guys. I was dealt pocket AA's and raised just about $3. The next guy re-raised me $10. So I went all in with about $80. He called with pocket QQ's. Now I know AA's get cracked alot, but I felt pretty safe. Anyhow the flop came Ks,9h,4h. The turn was 6h. Finally the river was a 2 of hearts. He had made a flush because one Queen was a heart. I took my loss well because I actually expected to lose if he called. My questions are did I make the right call going all in and what are the odds of him beating me.

Answer: In no limit holdem, your dream is to have someone with a smaller pocket pair go all-in when you have AA. You didn't do anything wrong. Just because it is your dream come true, doesn't mean that he doesn't have a chance to still win. It's very unlikely that he will win with them but it doesn't happen. He can spike a Queen, get a weird straight or catch a flush like he did. Most of the time that won't happen though so you would be playing incorrectly by not going all-in preflop with AA. Poker is a game of relatively small edges so expect to get some bad beats every now and then.
