A Push In Texas Holdem?

Question: I was in vegas recently playing in a low-limit game and encountered a situation i was unfamiliar with. Everyone folded to me in the small blind and the big blind turned to me and asked me something. Since I had a playable hand I was already limping in. What he was asking, to my understanding, was if we wanted to take our blinds back and play the next hand. Since i had already called, the dealer said it was too late. I was not aware that kind of play was allowed in holdem. Have you ever heard of anything like this and why would the big blind offer this because it would be obvious that he did not have a strong hand if I chose not to take his offer? thanks for your time.

Answer: No, there isn't a push in texas holdem poker. What the guy was asking is if you "chop chop." What that means is that if everyone folds and just you guys are in the blinds, will you just fold and then he'll give you your blind back. He loses a little but you guys don't battle. You'll only find that in lower limit games. Usually it is a good idea to find out if the person to your left and right chop before the situation arises.

It would be bad form to look at your hand and then decide whether or not your chop after. You won't find that happening in larger games because most of the play is over the blind money. Expect people to ask you that when you play the lower limits. It's fine to chop or not chop, just be clear and consistent.
