A Batch Of Questions

Question: Thanks for a great resource site! Ran into a few questions during our first ever Texas Hold'em Tournament last night. - We had 2 blinds. Once down to two players, both pay the blind and action continues?

Top 3 Beginner Rooms

Yes that is correct. When it comes down to heads up play (two players) then the small blind is on the dealer button and the big blind is the other player.

- Aces are High? Low? Depends on called hand?

Aces are high with one exception: a straight. The straight A - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5, the Ace acts as a one and it is low. This straight is called "the wheel." An Ace can also act as high though in the following straight: T - J - Q - K - A The first hand is a 5 high straight and the second is an Ace high straight. Note that it doesn't loop around. In other words you can't have a straight like this: 3 - 2 - A - K - Q

- Is it true that you can make your best five card hand from the table? If so, wouldn't this leave things open to a lot of ties where players just decide to play the table?

Yes, you make the best hand you can from the two personal cards and the five community cards. There are some ties but they are a small percentage of the game. When the best possible hand is in the community cards it is called "the board plays." That is rare though. Most of the time just one pair wins.

- There are 3 players in the pot. One goes all in, so a main and side pot are created. Does the dude who went all in show his cards?

Yes he shows his cards but when everyone else does. He doesn't show them until the showdown otherwise that may give information that would make the other players play better against him or eachother.

Thanks!
