AA Getting Carried Away?

Question: Hello,

I´m new to this game, playing only online and low limit. I have a question about a hand I recently lost. Does this make sense?

Top 3 Beginner Rooms

I have AA in middle/late position. There are two or three calls, I raise and the guy behind me raises, one guy calls and I raise again. They both call so we are three players left to see the flop. I´m quite happy with my aces! The flop is like 5d 8d 10s or something similar.

What happens now is that I and the one behind me raise and re raise and raise again til the limit while the last guy folds. The turn card bring nothing, so we get back at raising each other to the limit. After the river card there is still nothing to be worried about so I raise, he raise me after which I call only to lose to 555.

Did I get carried away? Since he re raised pre flop I figured he had a really strong hand (AK, KK, possibly even AA :) ), I didnt even consider the possibility that he only had a low or middle pocket pair.

Thanks!

Answer: Was it the worst mistake in the world? No. Was it a mistake though, yes. Capping (max number of raises in a limit game) preflop is fine. Capping on the flop is fine but on the turn if you get reraised again then you have to assume the guy has you beat unless he is a maniac (in which case you also might be worried one pair isn't the best hand).

After getting reraised on the turn I would just call the person down. I would assume they have TTT or 888. It is pretty rare for someone to cap the betting the whole way with one pair (the only hand you could beat). Aggression is good but you need to be careful when the other person has a good idea of what you have and is still coming back at you with more raises.
