9 Hand Vs 10 Hand Tables

Question: I have a question about dealing 9 handed vs. 10 handed and have been chomping at the bit to make our house a 9 handed room. We are currently a 10 handed room and am trying to explain to my boss the amount of hands per hour will increase, and that means more coin for the box, Besides the size of the tables "too small" for 10 handed, the players are convenced that the more the better, So now I am trying to explain it to our players as well.

I' am arguing that the stgength of the hands hold better, So I ask , Is it safe to say that the hands strengths become stronger or does that matter, also the hands per hour, I m guessing will be about 2-3 more per down every half hour. if there is any thing you can add it would help me out a ton!

Thank You, Brian...

Answer: If your cardroom gets paid based on rake and not renting out seats then yes you would increase your hourly rate per table. Most cardrooms institute the "if there is a flop, there is a drop" rule unlike online cardrooms where the rake is based on the size of the pot so to make more money all you have to do is have more hands dealt per hour.

As for the hand strength question, yes it is safe to say that the more hands dealt the stronger the hand that wins will be. Shorthanded poker is so wild because if you have even middle pair, it is good most of the time; contrast that with a full table and to win with middle pair if 5 people see the flop is really lucky.

Do I think your players will see a noticeable difference between a 9 and 10 person table in hand strength? Probably not. The bad players most likely won't care regardless of what you do. To convince the good players that this is a good idea I would just focus on the fact that if you are a winning player, if you see more hands per hour you instantly start making more money.
