Question about WPT controversy

Question:

Hi,

I played in the 2007 wpt at the fallsview. Yesterday, I placed 19th. I am very interested in your opinion regarding the play with Adam Levy's ace in the muck. I would really appreciate a quick response.

Thank-you, Catherine.

Answer:

Hi Catherine,

We will start by giving some background for those who haven't heard or seen what happened when you got knocked out of WPT Fallsview:

Catherine moved all in with Ah-Kcm, and Adam Levy said "call". When he showed his cards, one of his two aces flied into the muck face up. The tournament director ruled that Levy's hand was still alive since "tabled cards that are face-up after a called all in bet, remain in play." The community cards were dealt, the aces held up, and Catherine was eliminated in 19th place.

Our comment: We actually think it's a fair ruling by the tournament director. Levy had already called your all-in bet, and there seems to be no doubt whatsoever that he was holding pocket aces. It would be very harsh to declare his hand dead in this situation.

You could of course argue that a hand touching the much is always dead, but each tournament has its own set of rules. If the tournament director has cited the WPT rules correctly it's clear that he made the right decision.

This is probably not the answer you were hoping for, but we call 'em as we see 'em here at Learn-Texas-Holdem.com.

Thank you for visiting our site and congratulations on your great performance in the WPT Fallsview.
