PKR is working the most serious effort so far at realizing top-notch, full-fledged and truly playable 3D poker. The graphics are fantastic and the player characters can be customized over a very detailed set of properties such as chin width and nose slope. Bits of the table chat being spoken out loud in a range of American and international dialects adds to the brick-and-mortar feel of this online poker room.
The PKR download is nothing for players on dial-up connections, seeing that it amounts to as much as 640 MB. Another quite serious drawback is the tendency of the PKR poker client to make computers hang. This is of course due to the excessive demands on the graphics card. The problem occurs primarily at lap top computers, and allegedly will go away altogether if your graphics card has an internal fan. And, it should be said, an occasional crash isn't as bad as it may sound.
Being a new room with high ambitions, PKR cares very much about its users. The help desk is eager to please over email and live chat, there are sign-up bonuses and generic rakeback deals, as well as a lot of guaranteed tournaments. The real-life imitating "peek at my cards" feature forces you to remember your hole cards, or take a peek - which will not go unnoticed among your opponents. Of course, this makes the game clearly slower than at other sites. Due to the same feature, multi-tabling is a bit cumbersome, but it has improved a lot in recent versions, and you can play up to four tables quite comfortably. A very nice detail is that you can flash one of your cards after winning a hand uncontested. So far, mostly holdem is played at PKR. Poker traffic: 200-300 ring-game players and 500-700 tournament players (during peak hours in December 2006.)
